Fifteen cities · Small groups

Street photography, practised in the open.

Small-group workshops led by Kim Singh: journalist, fine art photographer, and a working street photographer for over three decades.

New: Melbourne and Sydney, 18 to 21 March 2027

A street is never just a street. It is a stage nobody rehearsed for.

Kim Singh photographs the unposed moment: light through a station roof, a shadow that outlasts the man who cast it, a bird that has claimed a rooftop as its own. The workshops teach that same instinct: how to walk a city until it starts showing you things.

Where the workshops go next

Alongside street photography, the workshops cover fine art and painting photography, fashion and portraiture, and the editing work that turns a frame into a finished piece. A sample of that wider practice:

About

"I have spent more years watching cities than photographing them. The camera just gives the watching somewhere to go."

Kim Singh is a fine art photographer and journalist, and Editor-in-Chief of Asia News, based between Navi Mumbai and San Francisco. He holds a dual M.S. from the University of Southern California, in Film and in Computer Science.

Alongside a career spanning journalism, technology and public policy, street photography has remained a constant: a way of reading a city on foot, one block at a time. He has photographed fashion for Indian designers including Manish Malhotra, Narendra Kumar and Wendell Rodricks, and his work hangs in homes, offices and banks in India, San Francisco, Los Angeles, London, Hong Kong and Tokyo.

FAQs

Is my hotel guaranteed?

No. Hotels are not guaranteed.

Fantasia Travels will make reasonable efforts to provide the hotels advertised at the time of booking. However, hotels, room categories, room types, bed configurations, hotel locations and meal arrangements may change before or during the trip.

Reasons for change may include:

  • Availability
  • Group booking minimums
  • Hotel overbooking
  • Price increases
  • Supplier cancellation
  • Government restrictions
  • Force majeure events
  • The number of confirmed and fully paid participants

If a hotel changes, Fantasia Travels will use reasonable efforts to provide an alternative hotel of a similar standard and location. Participants are not entitled to compensation solely because a hotel is changed, provided the replacement hotel is of comparable standard.

Are the workshop dates guaranteed?

No. Dates may change.

The workshop dates may be changed depending on:

  • The number of confirmed attendees
  • The number of participants who have paid their full fees by the final payment due date
  • Hotel and airline availability
  • Visa processing timelines
  • Weather, safety or operational considerations
  • Force majeure events

Fantasia Travels will notify registered participants of any date change as early as reasonably possible. If a participant cannot attend the revised dates, the cancellation and refund policy will apply.

What happens if the minimum number of participants is not reached?

The workshop requires a minimum number of confirmed, fully paid participants to operate.

If the minimum number is not reached by the final payment due date, Fantasia Travels may:

  • Postpone the workshop to new dates
  • Modify the itinerary
  • Merge the workshop with another group
  • Cancel the workshop

If Fantasia Travels cancels the workshop due to insufficient participation, participants will receive a refund of amounts paid, less reasonable costs already incurred by Fantasia Travels, such as non-refundable hotel deposits, airline charges, permits, insurance, administrative costs and supplier fees.

What happens if I get injured during the workshop?

Participants participate entirely at their own risk.

Street photography may involve walking for long periods, crossing roads, using public transport, photographing in crowded areas, working near traffic, water, construction sites, uneven pavements, stairs, public events and other urban hazards.

Fantasia Travels, its directors, employees, contractors, instructors, guides, agents and representatives are not liable for:

  • Damage to cameras, lenses, drones, laptops or other equipment
  • Medical expenses
  • Evacuation costs
  • Repatriation costs
  • Loss of earnings
  • Travel delays
  • Any indirect or consequential loss

This exclusion applies to the fullest extent permitted by law. Nothing in these Terms & Conditions excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded under Australian Consumer Law or other applicable law.

Do I need travel and health insurance?

Yes. Every participant must purchase their own comprehensive travel and health insurance.

Insurance must be valid for the entire duration of the trip, including travel days, and should include:

  • Overseas medical treatment
  • Hospitalisation
  • Emergency medical evacuation
  • Repatriation
  • Trip cancellation
  • Trip interruption
  • Lost, stolen or damaged baggage
  • Lost, stolen or damaged photography equipment
  • Personal liability
  • Personal accident cover
  • COVID-19 or pandemic-related cover, if available
  • Pre-existing medical condition cover, if required

Fantasia Travels does not provide medical, travel, equipment or liability insurance for participants. Participants must carry proof of insurance throughout the trip and provide policy details if requested.

What happens if I fall ill before the trip?

If a participant becomes ill before departure, they should contact Fantasia Travels as soon as possible.

Refunds, credits or postponements will depend on:

  • The cancellation policy
  • The timing of cancellation
  • Whether the participant’s travel insurance covers the cancellation
  • Whether the place can be resold
  • Costs already incurred by Fantasia Travels

A medical certificate may be required. Fantasia Travels is not obliged to waive cancellation charges unless required by law or agreed in writing.

What happens if I fall ill during the trip?

Participants are responsible for their own medical care, medicines, medical appointments and related costs.

If a participant becomes ill during the workshop:

  • They should seek medical attention immediately.
  • They should inform the workshop leader or local coordinator.
  • They must follow the advice of medical professionals.
  • They may be asked to stop participating in activities if their condition creates a risk to themselves or others.
  • They remain responsible for all medical, transport, accommodation and repatriation costs, subject to their insurance policy.

Fantasia Travels may arrange emergency assistance where reasonably possible, but does not accept financial responsibility for medical treatment or associated costs.

What if I have a medical condition, disability or dietary requirement?

Participants must disclose relevant medical conditions, mobility limitations, allergies, dietary needs or other requirements at the time of registration.

Fantasia Travels will make reasonable efforts to accommodate requests, but cannot guarantee:

  • Wheelchair accessibility
  • Step-free routes
  • Special meals
  • Specific hotel facilities
  • Medical support
  • Personal assistance
  • Alternative transport arrangements

Street photography may involve uneven surfaces, stairs, crowds, long walks and variable weather. Participants must assess whether they are physically able to participate.

What if the weather is bad?

Photography workshops will generally proceed in normal weather conditions, including light rain, cloud, wind or cold weather.

Poor weather alone is not normally a reason for cancellation or refund. The workshop leader may modify the schedule, location or activities for safety reasons.

If weather creates a genuine safety risk, Fantasia Travels may postpone, relocate or cancel specific activities. No refund is guaranteed for weather-related changes unless the entire workshop becomes impossible to deliver and Australian Consumer Law requires a refund.

What happens if my flight is delayed or cancelled?

Participants are responsible for booking and managing their own international flights unless expressly included in their package.

Fantasia Travels is not responsible for:

  • Flight delays
  • Flight cancellations
  • Missed connections
  • Airline strikes
  • Airport closures
  • Baggage delays
  • Additional hotel nights
  • Additional meals
  • Transport costs
  • Visa problems
  • Costs caused by airline schedule changes

Participants should arrive in Melbourne or Sydney with sufficient buffer time before the workshop begins. Participants should purchase travel insurance that covers flight delay, cancellation and missed connections.

What if I miss the workshop start?

If a participant arrives late or misses part of the workshop, no refund, credit or alternative activity is guaranteed.

Participants must make their own arrangements to join the group. Fantasia Travels will provide reasonable joining instructions, but is not responsible for additional costs caused by late arrival.

What if I need to cancel?

Please submit cancellation requests in writing to Fantasia Travels. The date written notice is received will be used to assess any applicable cancellation charges. Any refund or credit will depend on the timing of cancellation, costs already incurred or committed by Fantasia Travels, supplier and accommodation charges, whether the place can be resold, and whether the participant’s travel insurance covers the cancellation. A medical certificate may be required for illness-related cancellations. Cancellation charges will not be waived unless required by law or agreed in writing. Please contact Fantasia Travels for confirmation of the charges applicable to your booking.
